Box Score LAGRANGE, Ga. – The University of Chicago baseball team lost at LaGrange College 9-2 in a nine-inning game on Friday.
The Maroons fell to 2-6 while the Panthers improved to 10-14.
The Maroons tallied their first run in the top of the third when freshman outfielder Max Larsen scored on a passed ball to tie the game at 1-1. But UChicago was hampered by four unearned runs in the first six innings of game and LaGrange scored all nine of its runs by the end of the seventh.
UChicago's offense scored once more in the top of the eighth on a RBI single by freshman catcher Matt Slodzinski. The visitors finished with eight hits and totaled 13 runners left on the base. Slodzinski and freshman shortstop Dean Christakes both had two hits each. The defense committed five errors.
Junior starting pitcher Lucas Friss (1-1) struck out eight batters in his 5-1/3 innings. He allowed nine hits, six runs (two earned) and one walk. Senior pitcher Simon Swanson worked the next 2-2/3 innings with six hits, three runs and one strikeout.
