Box Score CHICAGO – The No. 1 University of Chicago women's soccer team continued its dominance of Division III opponents with the Maroons' 13th win by more than one goal in Sunday's 3-0 victory over conference opponent Case Western Reserve University on Sunday.
The undefeated Maroons (14-0, 4-0 University Athletic Association) have had just one match decided by one goal in a 2-1 win over Wheaton Sept. 26. Sunday, UChicago got on the scoreboard first with a Mia Calamari blast from 30 yards out that shot inside the right post in just the 7th minute of play. Sophomore teammate Mackenzie Peebles assisted on the play.
On a blustery day at the Stagg Field turf, the 1-0 lead held until halftime, until the Maroons struck again in the 46th minute, when Calamari delivered a centering pass into the box near the far post. A Case defender tried to clear but instead headed the ball in to give the Maroons a two-goal advantage.
Sophomore Julia Lodoen then capitalized off a redirect from a Rachel Dias corner kick, which Claudia Hodgetts headed across to Lodoen for a header finish to make it 3-0, Maroons.
UChicago dominated in the shot category, 24-4, including a stellar 14-0 on goal. Senior Kelsey Moore took four of those shots, which were spread among 14 different players. The Maroon offense was relentless, accounting for 19 corner kicks compared to one for the Spartans.
Starting keeper Katie Donovan played the first 45 minutes and recorded the win, her 11th, and teammates Sydney Jones and Miranda Malone finished out the game to preserve UChicago's 10th shutout of the season and fifth in a row.
CWRU fell to 5-9 overall and 0-4 in the UAA with the loss.
