Watkins, Lodoen Strike Twice in Women's Soccer 6-0 Win Over Kalamazoo

Box Score

CHICAGO – Hanna Watkins and Julia Lodoen each netted two goals to lead a University of Chicago women's soccer scoring barrage in Wednesday's 6-0 nonleague shutout of Kalamazoo College.

The No. 1-ranked Maroons (11-0) remained undefeated and led nearly every second of the contest, as senior Caroline Olivero gave her team a 1-0 advantage with a left-footed blast from 20 yards out that found the upper left 90 just 23 seconds into the match.

Charlotte Waechter assisted on the play, centering the ball for Olivero to finish.

Junior Jenna McKinney added her eighth score of the year just three minutes later, benefiting from a Watkins one-touch to Olivero, who crossed it into the box for a point-blank range goal at the 3:23 mark.

Watkins scored her first goal of the game at the 26-minute mark, finishing a nearly identical play from the previous score when Adrianna Vera passed it to the near-right wing to Mia Calamari, who one-touched it into the box for Watkins to connect for the 3-0 lead heading into the half.

The sophomore would add her second goal just five minutes into the second period on an unassisted strike from about 18 yards out, blasting a shot the keeper mishandled that hit the cross bar and dribbled in for the 4-0 lead.

Lodoen would then finish off the contest with her second and third goals of the year, as rookie Katie Jasminski set her up on a perfect cross in the 75th. The sophomore then made good on a penalty kick in the 84th after teammate Rachel Dias was taken down in the box.

Starting keeper Katie Donovan picked up her eighth win of the year, stopping three balls in 76 minutes and Sydney Jones finished out the clean sheet, collecting one save in the process.

UChicago outshot the Hornets (7-6) by a 29-4 margin -- including 15-4 on goal – and totaled eight corner kicks while shutting Kalamazoo out in the category.
