INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Chicago men's and women's tennis teams put together a pair of superior performances to defeat Denison University 9-0 and 8-1 on Saturday.

The No. 5-ranked Maroon men moved to 6-0 and the No. 10-ranked UChicago women improved to 4-0. The No. 33-ranked Big Red men fell to 0-3 and the No. 22-ranked women dropped to 0-2.

After doubles play, UChicago's men drew ahead 3-0 and the women were up 2-1. Denison's women took the No. 1 doubles spot 9-7, but the other five doubles matches were no closer than 8-5. Senior Tiffany Chen and freshman Alyssa Rudin won their No. 2 doubles match 8-0.

The other 12 singles contests were taken by the Maroons in straight sets. Sophomore Charlie Pei only lost one game at No. 2 singles (6-1, 6-0) while junior Luke Tsai only dropped two games at No. 3 (6-2, 6-0).

The day's multiple winners in singles and doubles included Pei, freshman Erik Kerrigan, Chen, Rudin, junior Ariana Iranpour and freshman Estefania Navarro.

"Denison is a historically tough and well-respected program, so we're always happy to pull out a couple of wins against them," said Head Coach Jay Tee. "I thought we did a good job today of being tougher physically and mentally and made them work hard for the points they won. Tomorrow will be a good test of that mental toughness as we transition from indoors to outdoors for the first time since October."
