ST. LOUIS – The University of Chicago baseball team got its offense back on track in game two of Saturday's doubleheader, but couldn't hold off Washington University-St. Louis in a pair of losses.

The Maroons dropped to 22-14 and the No. 15-ranked Bears improved to 25-8.

Game One – WashU 10, UChicago 0

The opening contest of the day saw the momentum go against the Maroons right away. Washington-St. Louis came out swinging and led 8-0 after three innings. Two more tallies made it 10-0 and the game ended after seven innings.

Offensively, UChicago was held to four hits. Sophomore shortstop Justin Lo went 2-for-2 in the batter's box.

Sophomore pitcher Joe Liberman (3-2 record) took the loss in three innings of work, while fellow sophomore Alex McGimpsey tossed the other three innings in relief.

Game Two – WashU 8, UChicago 5

In the second game, the Maroons opened the scoring in the top of the third inning when sophomore outfielder Connor Hickey smacked a solo home run to right field.

After falling behind 2-1, UChicago retook the lead in the fifth. Junior outfielder Maximiliano Larsen smoked his team-high 17th double of the year to drive in two runs and make the score 3-2.

However, the Bears scored five times in the bottom of the fifth to go ahead for good. UChicago's final two runs came in the eighth on a RBI double by junior first baseman Michael Davis and a groundout. The Maroons stranded two runners in the ninth as the game concluded.

The visitors posted nine hits and two errors in the game. Hickey hit 3-for-5 with one RBI and sophomore catcher Ian Bohn went 2-for-5. Larsen was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI and one walk.

Freshman pitcher Jacob Petersen (5-1 record) absorbed his first loss of the year after starting the opening five innings. Freshman Patrick Murphy tossed the remaining three frames out of the pen.
