UChicago Baseball Wins Fifth-Straight; Downs Rose-Hulman, 5-2

Box Score

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. –  The University of Chicago baseball team completed the series sweep and won its fifth-straight game with Sunday's 5-2 victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

The Maroons (5-3) won all three games over the weekend in Terre Haute, Ind., after defeating the Figthin' Engineers (3-10) by a score of 14-6 and downing Wisconsin-Platteville, 7-6, on Saturday.

Junior Ian Bohn (3-for-5, RBI), first-year Brian Lyle (3-for-4, RBI), and sophomore Drew Ventrelle (RBI) led the Maroon offense and junior right-hander Joe Liberman (2-0) put together another strong outing, scattering seven hits, striking out two, waking two and giving up just two earned runs in seven innings pitched.

Sophomore Daniel Smith recorded the save in the final four innings, allowing just four hits, walking one and not allowing a run in a solid effort.

The Maroons led 4-1 after four, scoring two runs each in both the third and fourth innings. Lyle notched the first run in the third on an Engineers' error and Bohn connected on an RBI-single for the inning's other run to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.

In the fourth, it was Ventrelle with an RBI-groundout and Lyle followed him with an RBI-single to make it 4-0 UChicago before RHIT added one in the bottom of the frame. Rose-Hulman would score one more run in the sixth, but UChicago added another unearned run in the eighth to create the final score.

Smith was untouchable after that, allowing just four hits but not a run in the final three innings.

Josh Parks, Payton Jancsy, and James Kelly added singles for the Maroons in the win.
