UChicago Women's Soccer Dominates UW-Oshkosh in 4-0 Victory

Box Score

CHICAGO – The No. 3 University of Chicago women's soccer team dominated all facets of play en route to a 4-0 victory over visiting Wisconsin-Oshkosh Sunday afternoon at Stagg Field.

Senior midfielder Jenna McKinney scored two goals, including the game-winner, classmate Sydney Mathis added another and first-year Nicole Willing joined in on the offense to lift the Maroons (5-0-1) to their fifth win of the year.

With the Titans (3-3-1) packed into the defensive half of the field, UChicago hit the visitors with a barrage of shots early (the hosts outshot UW-Oshkosh 17-0 in the first half alone).

It was McKinney who would break through first, taking a beautiful pass from Hanna Watkins into the box and finishing it past the Oshkosh keeper in the 6' to make it 1-0.

First-year Peyton Jefferson kicked off the offensive sequence for the game's next goal, as the rookie beat her defender to get the edge on the right side and delivered the ball into the box. After the Titans' defense cleared, the ball landed at the feet of Mathis, who fired a shot from about 15 yards to give the Maroons a two-goal lead in the 32'.

Willing added her second goal of the year just three minutes later, as the wide-open first-year took an assist from classmate Nikola Charouzova in front of the box and finished to make it a three-goal spread at the break.

The Maroons had several more chances in the second frame, but it would be McKinney who would strike again – for her team-leading fifth goal of the year – in the 71st, capitalizing on a deft ball into the box from sophomore Charlotte Waechter.

UChicago's defense was hardly threatened, with second-half keeper Katie Donovan stopping the Titans' lone close call, a point-blank shot on goal in the 68'. Starter Miranda Malone was credited with the win, playing the first 45 minutes without a shot on goal.

For the game, the hosts outshot Oshkosh by a 28-2 margin and had nine corner kicks compared to the Titans' two.
