WHEATON, Ill. – The University of Chicago men's and women's swimming teams dominated in their season-opening meet by sweeping the field with wins in 26 of 28 events in two team victories over host Wheaton College Saturday.
The Maroon men, ranked No. 6 in the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association Preseason Poll, defeated the Thunder by a score of 197-64 while the No. 7 women won by a score of 209-53.
The future looks bright too, as the Maroons saw nine events – four men's, five women's – won by first-years. Rookie Arthur Kiselnikov won both the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events and classmate Alexander Sun came in first in the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley races. Kiselnikov was also a part of the winning 400 free relay team, joining first-year Lucius Gao, sophomore Sam Nickson and senior Byrne Litschgi.
On the women's side, first-year Filippa Kolokotsa (100 and 200 freesyle) and Morgan Simon (500 and 1,000 freestyle) each won two events and Kolokotsa also aided the winning 400 free relay team, joining fellow first-year Grace Schwieters and juniors Nicole Lin and Gillian Gagnard. First year Chanell Kann was also winner, coming in first in the 200 IM.
Nick Ding (100 and 200 butterfly) was a also multiple winner for the men, while Lin (50 free, 200 breaststroke) and Gagnard (100 and 200 back) also took home two titles.
