INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Chicago tennis teams scored a pair of matching 8-1 victories in neutral site matches versus Denison University on Saturday.

The No. 3-ranked Maroon men improved to 5-0, while dropping No. 27-ranked Denison to 0-2. The No. 10-ranked UChicago women moved to 4-0 and the No. 30-ranked Big Red fell to 0-1.

The women went ahead 2-1 after doubles play. The combinations of Annika Pandey/Nicole Semenov and Marjorie Antohi/Lainey Axell both triumphed by 8-3 margins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, respectively. Once singles got underway, Antohi prevailed in a close three-set battle at No. 1 by scores of 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 6-3. The Maroons would proceed to win in straight sets at the remaining five singles positions with Catherine Xu, Eugenia Lee, Semenov, Pandey and Axell.

On the men's half, it was a similar story with a 2-1 doubles advantage for UChicago. Tyler Raclin/Jeremy Yuan won 8-4 at No. 1 while Charlie Pei/Joshua Xu took the No. 3 bout, 8-3. Denison pushed a pair of singles matches to three sets at No. 2 and No. 4. But Yuan and Alejandro Rodriguez both dug in and came through with clutch wins in the third-set super tiebreaks. The other contests went handily to the Maroons with wins by Erik Kerrigan, Pei, Alex Guzhva and Xu.
