CHICAGO – The University of Chicago men's tennis team secured a second-straight shutout on Wednesday afternoon with a 9-0 triumph over Augustana College.
The Maroons improved to 4-2 while the Vikings dropped to 6-4.
A doubles sweep got the hosts off on the right foot with scores of 8-5, 8-5 and 8-2. The momentum carried over to singles as the next four matches ended quickly – the Maroons only dropped five total games between No. 3-6 singles. Sophomore Marek Michulka secured his second 6-0, 6-0 win in-a-row at No. 5 while junior Alex Guzhva only dropped one game (6-1, 6-0). Junior Joshua Xu (6-1, 6-1) and sophomore Sachin Das (6-2, 6-0) were similarly dominant.
Augustana competed well at the top two spots, but UChicago prevailed in straight sets in both cases with sophomore Christian Alshon at No. 1 and senior Jeremy Yuan at No. 2.
