CHICAGO – In its 2021 season debut, the University of Chicago women's tennis team rolled over North Central College with wins of 9-0 and 9-0 on Saturday.

The Maroons (2-0 record) last played an official match on March 1, 2020. The Cardinals fell to 6-4 on the season.

The Stagg Courts served as the site for Saturday's double dual. In the morning session, UChicago came out firing in doubles and took that momentum all throughout singles for a sweep at all nine positions. The Maroons did not surrender more than six games in any match. Multi-winners in both doubles and singles included sophomore Claudia Ng, first-year Cara O'Flaherty, sophomore Perene Wang and junior Annika Pandey.

The afternoon matchup was equally dominating for the home team. O'Flaherty and Pandey teamed up to shut out their No. 2 doubles opponents by an 8-0 score. Sophomore Isabella Gomez only allowed two games in her 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles. The session's multiple winners featured Ng, Wang, first-year Brianna Liu and first-year Ivvy Hicks.

"We were all very excited to be back on the courts and competing for the first time after a year," Ng said. "The doubleheader today offered a great opportunity for the freshmen to step up and win their first college matches, and it was great to see everyone bringing the same high energy and toughness to each game. We've been eager for the season to start the whole year and are all looking forward to more competition in the coming weeks."
