CHICAGO – The University of Chicago women's soccer team maintained its offensive momentum on Wednesday afternoon and secured a 4-0 victory against Wheaton College on the Stagg Field grass.

The No. 10-ranked Maroons improved to 5-0 and recorded their fifth-straight shutout. The Thunder fell to 1-3-1.

Senior Nicole Kaspi opened the scoring in the ninth minute on an opportunistic strike. A short goal kick on the ground was handled roughly by Wheaton's defender and the ball shot out to the top of the box. Kaspi touched the ball past a leaping defender, settled and fired a 20-yard shot. The ball caromed off the outstretched hands of the goalkeeper and went in.

Chances abounded throughout the contest, but it would be another 32 minutes until the Maroons could add to their lead. Right at the end of the 41st minute, senior Anna Kenig-Ziesler boomed a corner kick straight to the head of junior Hannah Rittenhouse in front, who headed the ball in for her team-leading sixth goal of the year.

The day's third score came at the 73:49 mark. Sophomore Allison Embroski eluded two defenders in tight quarters with deft footwork and then potted her quick shot past the goalkeeper. The final tally came courtesy of sophomore Alai Araujo-Elorza in the 82nd minute. Araujo-Elorza stole the ball off the foot of a Wheaton defender near the top of the box and scored her 1v1 with the goalie inside the right post.  

The Maroons appeared to add another at 85:27, but the shot was disallowed due to an offside call by the referee.

UChicago concluded with 32 shots while only allowing two by Wheaton. It marks the third time this season that the Maroons have fired off at least 30 shots. Corner kicks went to the hosts by an 8-2 margin.

Senior goalkeeper Miranda Malone (5-0 record) collected one save in her 90 minutes of action.
