Box Score CHICAGO – University of Chicago's women's basketball team continued its undefeated start to the 2022-23 campaign with a 70-61 victory over Carroll College at home on Tuesday evening.
UChicago trailed by seven early, but closed the first quarter on a 9-2 run to even the score at 11-all. The Maroons then exploded for 27 second-quarter points and never looked back, enjoying a double-digit advantage for much of the remainder of the contest. The Pioneers got within three in the fourth, but a late UChicago surge secured the nine-point win, moving the Maroons to 5-0.
A well-rounded scoring effort featured all five starters for UChicago in double-digits, led by Mallory Brodnik's 13. Ellie Gross and Grace Hynes chipped in 11 each while Marissa Powe and Sophia North totaled 10 apiece. Bella Alfaro added six points off the bench, going 2-for-2 from distance.
The Maroons shot 51 percent from the field and held Carroll to just 32.8 percent shooting. UChicago shared the ball well, assisting on 20-of-26 made baskets. The game featured a lot of back-and-forth play as the two teams combined for 37 turnovers.
UChicago takes on Carthage at home on Sunday, Nov. 27 at 1 p.m. CT inside the Ratner Athletics Center.
