INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Chicago men's tennis team was firing on all cylinders during Saturday's 9-0 victory over Kenyon College in a neutral match in Indianapolis, Ind.
The Maroons improved to 3-0 while the Lords moved to 1-1 on the season.
UChicago was on its game from the start and made quick work of the three doubles matches by scores of 8-3, 8-1 and 8-5.
Continuing the momentum from doubles, the Maroons dropped only one set in singles play. Junior Christian Alshon surrendered only a single game at the No. 3 position (6-1, 6-0). First-year Andrei Leonov and senior Shramay Dhawan defeated their opponents 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, respectively. Sophomore Derek Hsieh was ahead 6-2, 4-1 when his opponent retired due to injury. Sophomore Arjun Asokumar claimed the No. 1 singles win 6-0, 6-4.
Multi winners on the day included Asokumar, Hsieh, Alshon and Leonov.
"The team came out looking sharp, focused and determined, leading us to a quick 3-0 start in doubles," Head Coach Jay Tee said. "That wave carried right into singles where we continued to have a presence and didn't let up. We have some things to work on, but overall, I was really happy with the way we competed and executed against a prominent program in Kenyon."
