GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The University of Chicago men's tennis team won its fourth-straight match on Sunday with a comprehensive 9-0 victory at DePauw University.
The Maroons (4-0 record) have shut out their past three opponents. The Tigers fell to 2-3 on the season.
UChicago grabbed the early advantage by winning all three doubles matches. Sophomore Derek Hsieh and junior Christian Alshon were spotless at No. 2 with an 8-0 sweep. Sophomore Arjun Asokumar and first-year Andrei Leonov won 8-4 at No. 1, and juniors Bailey Forgus and Biren Reddy outlasted their opponents in a tiebreaker 8-7 (7-5) at the No. 3 spot.
Singles action featured straight-set wins across the board. Senior Alex Guzhva blanked his opponent at the No. 4 position (6-0, 6-0). Alshon only allowed two games in his 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3. Other singles winners included Asokumar (No. 1), Hsieh (No. 2), Leonov (No. 5) and junior Marek Michulka (No. 6).
"Today was a good test for us coming off a big win, which is not always easy, especially with a quick turnaround from last night," Head Coach Jay Tee said. "We weren't quite as sharp today, but we did a nice job working through it and pulling out close sets and matches."
