GEORGETOWN, Texas – The University of Chicago men's tennis team maintained a high level of play throughout Thursday's match to beat Southwestern University on the road 9-0.

The No. 2-ranked Maroons (9-1 record) have now shut out five opponents this season. The No. 23-ranked Pirates fell to 6-5.

By the end of doubles play, UChicago had staked itself to a 3-0 lead. Junior Christian Alshon and sophomore Derek Hsieh won 8-5 at No. 1. Sophomore Arjun Asokumar and first-year Andrei Leonov triumphed 8-4 at No. 2, and the No. 3 combo of junior Sachin Das and first-year Pat Otero were victorious 8-6.

All six singles matches went to the Maroons in straight sets. Das put a double goose egg on his opponent with a 6-0, 6-0 score line at No. 5. Alshon was almost equally dominant with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2. Senior Shramay Dhawan also garnered a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 6.

The day's multi-winners included Asokumar, Alshon, Hsieh and Das.

"Southwestern is a really good team and is even better at home, so a win like this is all the more impressive," said Head Coach Jay Tee. "The men were locked in from the start and controlled the momentum and energy from the first serve to the last ball. We'll need a repeat effort again tomorrow as we play the fifth-ranked Tigers on their turf."
