MADISON, Wis. – The University of Chicago women's tennis team finished off a dominant weekend at the Midwest Invite, blasting past Washington University – St. Louis 9-0 in Saturday's championship match.
The No. 1-ranked Maroons improved to 13-1 while the No. 21-ranked Bears fell to 10-6. UChicago extended its winning streak against WashU to 10-straight matches, dating back to the 2015-16 season.
UChicago entered as the top seed in the eight-team invitational while WashU was the No. 3 seed. The previous day, the Maroons blanked Hope College and University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 9-0.
The same script unfolded in Saturday's matchup. UChicago made quick work of doubles with a sweep by scores of 8-3 (Sylwia Mikos/Shianna Guo), 8-1 (Claudia Ng/Eugenia Lee) and 8-4 (Miranda Yuan/Nicole Geller).
The Maroons then blazed through the six singles matches to secure their third shutout in-a-row. On the weekend, they went 27-0 and did not surrender a set. Singles victories were provided by Mikos, Guo, Ng, Geller, Yuan and Lauren Park.
