ORLANDO – The University of Chicago men's tennis team took down Emory University 5-0 in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Championship on Monday.
The No. 1-ranked Maroons (20-1 record) advance to Tuesday morning's national semifinals for the fifth time in program history. The No. 13-ranked Eagles finished their season with a 10-11 record.
UChicago defeated Emory for the third-straight meeting thanks in large part to a 3-0 sweep of doubles. Junior Christian Alshon and sophomore Derek Hsieh prevailed 8-5 at the No. 1 position. Sophomore Arjun Asokumar and first-year Andrei Leonov triumphed 8-3 at No. 2, while junior Sachin Das and senior Alex Guzhva were victorious 8-4 at No. 3.
