Box Score WHEATON, Ill. – The University of Chicago women's soccer team stretched its winning streak to five in-a-row with a 1-0 victory at Wheaton College on Wednesday night.
The No. 13-ranked Maroons improved their season record to 5-1 while the Thunder dropped to 1-2-1.
The first half played out relatively evenly, with Wheaton holding a 6-5 shot edge. But UChicago turned it on in the second half, sporting a 12-4 shot advantage over the final 45 minutes.
The Maroons fired off six attempts in first eight minutes following the halftime break. Then in the 53rd minute, Wheaton's defense deflected a shot and was whistled for a handball in the box. UChicago was awarded a penalty kick, and senior Hannah Rittenhouse buried it for her team-leading fourth goal of the year.
The visitors made that lead stand up the rest of the way and secured their fourth-straight shutout.
In the final box score, UChicago led 17-10 in shots (6-1 on goal) and 7-4 in corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper Sophie Pilarski collected one save in the winning effort.
