Box Score ATLANTA – University of Chicago's seventh-ranked women's basketball program notched its fifth-consecutive win in University Athletic Association (UAA) play on Friday evening, defeating Emory 66-61 on the road.
UChicago outscored Emory 20-8 in a pivotal second quarter which helped the Maroons build a nine-point halftime advantage. The Eagles edged their way back into the contest, pulling within two with 8:49 remaining, but UChicago kept Emory from getting any closer to secure the victory.
Grace Hynes scored several big baskets down the stretch on her way to a team-high 25 points, 11 of which came in the fourth quarter. Ellie Gross poured in 16 points in support and added five steals, four rebounds and three assists. Marissa Powe and Mallory Brodnik led the rebounding effort with eight and seven rebounds, respectively.
Both teams made their mark from the free throw line as UChicago made 16 free throws to Emory's 19. The Maroons knocked down eight three pointers, shooting 38.1 percent from distance while holding the Eagles to just 33.3 percent shooting from the field and 20.0 from deep.
The Maroons take on No. 16 Rochester on the road at 1 p.m. CT. on Sunday, Jan. 29.
