Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. – In a nationally-ranked showdown on Sunday afternoon, the No. 7-ranked University of Chicago women's basketball team lost 85-75 on the road at No. 16-ranked University of Rochester.
The Maroons (16-2 overall, 5-2 UAA) saw their five-game winning streak come to an end. The Yellowjackets moved to 14-4 on the season and 4-3 in the University Athletic Association.
Five-straight points by Grace Hynes midway through the second quarter gave UChicago its largest lead of the day at 29-19. However, Rochester rallied back to get within 34-33 in the final minutes of the half. The visitors went into the halftime locker room with a 36-33 lead.
Ultimately, the Yellowjackets proved too hard to stop in the second half. The hosts shot 71.4 percent from the field over the final 20 minutes of game time. A 15-4 run in the fourth quarter put UChicago in a 10-point hole that proved too difficult to overcome.
Hynes led the way with 15 points to go with six rebounds. Sophia North scored 14 points. Mallory Brodnik posted 13 points and eight rebounds. Marissa Powe racked up 12 points and six rebounds while making a big defensive impact with five steals.
UChicago shot 40.3 percent from the field, 23.8 percent from three-point range (5-21) and 92.3 percent from the free throw line (12-13). Rochester was efficient throughout at 55.9 percent on field goals, 45.8 percent on treys (11-24) and 66.7 percent on free throws (8-12).
The Yellowjackets held sway on the boards 40-32 and led the assists category 26-10. The Maroons forced more turnovers than they surrendered (17-11).
