ST. PETER, Minn. – University of Chicago's top-ranked men's tennis program fell 6-3 to No. 7 WashU on Saturday in the semifinals of the ITA DIII National Men's Indoor Championship, hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College.
The Maroons trailed 2-1 after the doubles competition and were then defeated in 4-of-6 singles matches. Biren Reddy and John Walentowicz claimed UChicago's lone doubles victory at the No. 3 spot.
Derek Hsieh and Emil Grantcharov both produced singles victories at Nos. 2 and 4, respectively. Hsieh won 6-3, 6-3 while Grantcharov claimed a 6-0, 7-5 win. Arjun Asokumar, Andrei Leonov and Walentowicz each won one set, but fell in a deciding third frame in their matches.
The Maroons finish off the ITA Indoor Nationals on Sunday with a match-up against No. 5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 9 a.m. CT.
