ST. PETER, Minn. – University of Chicago's top-ranked men's tennis team fell to No. 5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the third-place match at the 2023 ITA Indoor Nationals on Sunday.
The Maroons lost to CMS 5-4 to close out their weekend at the ITA Indoor National Championships, hosted by Gustavus Adolphus. UChicago dropped 2-of-3 doubles results and split the singles competition, 3-3.
Derek Hsieh and Andrei Leonov handled their opponents, 8-4, at the No. 1 doubles slot. At the second singles slot, John Walentowicz claimed a three-set victory, 2-6, 7-6, 6-4. Leonov, playing in the fourth singles spot, and Jack Wong, at No. 6, rounded out the Maroon victors on the day. Leonov dispatched his opponent 2-6, 7-6, 6-2 while Wong won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
The Maroons take on No. 20 Kenyon in their next match on March 4 at 2 p.m. ET in Indianapolis, Ind.
