CHICAGO – The University of Chicago men's tennis team returned to the friendly confines of XS Tennis and secured a 9-0 victory over Lewis University on Friday.
The No. 1-ranked Maroons improved to 2-0. The NCAA Division II Flyers fell to 0-1.
All three doubles matches went in UChicago's favor at 8-4, 8-6 and 8-3. The hosts continued to shine in singles play by sweeping all six bouts, including five in straight sets.
Arjun Asokumar, Derek Hsieh and John Walentowicz each picked up victories in singles and doubles. Other doubles winners included Andrei Leonov, Pat Otero and Biren Reddy. Emil Grantcharov, Marek Michulka and Jack Wong posted singles triumphs at the No. 4 through 6 spots, respectively.
"We challenged the men to show us improvement in a few areas after last weekend versus Holy Cross and they delivered," Head Coach Jay Tee said. "We were able to fight back after being down at a couple spots and we pulled out the close games, sets, and matches by playing our best in the biggest moments. If we keep seeing this type of improvement week to week, we will give ourselves a chance in every match in the spring."
