SAN ANTONIO, Texas – University of Chicago's top-ranked women's tennis team edged out 15th-ranked Trinity University (Texas) 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon.
UChicago claimed four singles victories and one in doubles with its top tandem to beat the Tigers on their home courts. Nicole Geller and Sylwia Mikos defeated their opponents at No. 1 doubles 8-2, but the Maroons fell at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles, trailing the match 2-1 after the doubles competition.
Mikos was the first to defeat her opponent in singles, winning by scores of 6-1, 6-0 at the top singles spot. Geller, playing at No. 2 singles, also earned a victory by scores of 6-0, 7-6 (8-6). Brooke Pedersen rounded out UChicago's top-three singles wins with a 6-0, 6-4 result. Claudia Ng, playing at No. 5 singles, proved the clinching point for the Maroons, winning by scores of 7-5, 7-6 (7-2).
UChicago continues its Texas trip with a match against Southwestern at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 17.
