Box Score LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Chicago's baseball program earned a series victory in extra innings on Sunday afternoon at Transylvania University.
The Maroons pushed across three runs in the 11th inning to improve to 6-5 and claim the win in the deciding matchup of the three-game set. Braden Jirovec walked to drive in the game-winning run, which put UChicago ahead 4-3.
The Maroons tacked on two more in the 11th as Erik Rindner was hit by a pitch for an RBI and Devan Johnson followed that with an RBI single. Hayden Leiderman (3-0) earned the victory for UChicago in relief, pitching 6.1 scoreless innings while scattering five hits. Matthew Guyton picked up his first save of the season with a scoreless bottom half of the 11th.
Jirovec, Michael Gladden and Jack Goldstein each had multi-hit games for UChicago. The Maroons trailed 3-0 after one, but scored three in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 3-3, setting the stage for extra innings.
UChicago returns home for a matchup at North Park on Tuesday, March 21 at 3 p.m. CT.
