MILWAUKEE, Wis. – University of Chicago's sixth-ranked men's tennis program defeated 14th-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College 7-2 on Saturday in non-conference action.
The Maroons won 2-of-3 doubles matches and 5-of-6 in singles for their second victory over GAC of 2023. Andrei Leonov and Derek Hsieh at No. 1 doubles and Sachin Das and Biren Reddy at No. 3 doubles both won by scores of 8-6.
UChicago surged into the singles competition, claiming victories at its top-five positions. Hsieh dispatched his opponent at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-2. Emil Grantcharov, playing No. 2 singles, and Sachin Das, playing No. 3 singles, both won in straights sets by scores of 6-1, 7-5 and 6-3, 6-2, respectively.
Leonov battled to a three-set win at No. 4 singles by scores of 6-0, 6-7, 6-4. Pat Otero also claimed a three-set victory by scores of 4-6, 6-1, 7-5.
The Maroons next match up with UW-Eau Claire on Saturday, April 1.
