MONMOUTH, Ill. – University of Chicago's baseball program notched its first Midwest Conference (MWC) victory on Saturday, defeating Monmouth 5-0 on the road. 

Starting pitcher Drew Bryan delivered a stellar performance with nine strikeouts over 7.0 innings, surrendering just one hit and one walk to lead UChicago to a shutout victory. Tyler Sarkisian finished off the game with 2.0 scoreless innings, scattering three hits and one strikeout. 

The Maroons scored two in the fifth after both teams were held scoreless through four and tacked on one more in each of the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. Michael Gladden led the offensive effort with a 3-for-5 day and one RBI. Jack Goldstein scored two runs and had one RBI and one walk.

UChicago will look to win the series on Sunday, April 2 with a two-game set at Monmouth, beginning at noon.
