Box Score 2 RIPON, Wis. – The University of Chicago baseball team lost a pair of road games at Ripon College on Friday afternoon.
The Maroons ran their record to 14-13 overall and 8-7 in the Midwest Conference (MWC). The Redhawks improved to 14-11 (9-4 MWC).
Game One – Ripon 11, UChicago 10
A roller-coaster ride of momentum persisted throughout the first game of the day. UChicago burst out with a three-run first inning, courtesy of Blane Soper's RBI single, Jack Goldstein's RBI double and Richard Lu's RBI single.
Jackson Slipock added a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth to make it 4-1. But Ripon would score nine runs over the next three innings to take the lead.
Jack Sharp's two-run double in the fifth and Soper's RBI single in the sixth drew UChicago to within 10-7. Then in the top of the eighth with two outs, Goldstein delivered heroics with a three-run homer to tie the game at 10-10. Ultimately, Ripon pushed a run across in the bottom of the ninth to grab the win.
UChicago knocked 11 hits but also committed five errors. Dylan White got the start on the mound, striking out five in 4.1 innings of work. Four Maroons made relief appearances – Hayden Brotz (0.1 IP), Kason Pelz (1.1 IP), Kirk Waller (1 IP) and Tyler Sarkisian (1.2 IP), who took the loss.
Soper batted 2-for-3 with two RBI and one walk. Goldstein went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI.
Game Two – Ripon 14, UChicago 2 (7 innings)
Ripon was in control for all of game two, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the first inning and holding sway from then on. The game ended in the seventh inning via run rule.
UChicago's two runs came in on Goldstein's two-run triple to right center in the sixth inning.
The Maroons concluded with four hits and three errors.
Starting pitcher Michael Allegri (1-1 record) absorbed the loss with five innings of work. He also struck out five batters. Sam MacGregor (0.2 IP) and Jake Keffer (0.1 IP) both made appearances out of the bullpen.
