Box Score CHICAGO – University of Chicago's baseball program secured a 9-1 win over Ripon College in Midwest Conference (MWC) play on Wednesday afternoon.
The Maroons (19-14, 11-8) took down the Red Hawks (17-13, 12-6) with solid pitching and timely hitting. Dylan White (1-2) took the mound for UChicago and allowed just one unearned run in 4.0 innings, striking out three. The Maroons struck for three in the bottom of the third and two in the bottom of the fourth to provide a nice cushion for White and the bullpen.
Erik Rindner opened the scoring for UChicago in the third with a two-RBI double. Blane Soper followed that with an RBI single to score Rindner. Jack Goldstein continued the scoring in the fourth with an RBI single and the Maroons then went ahead 5-1, plating a run courtesy of a Ripon error.
UChicago tacked on one in the fifth and three more in the eighth to finish off the convincing 9-1 win, salvaging a game from the Redhawks in their three-game series. Kason Pelz, Tyler Sarkisian and Phil Hogan silenced the Ripon offense with 5.0 combined scoreless innings in relief of White.
Richard Lu led the offense with a 4-for-5 day at the plate. Josh Peyton, Goldstein, Rindner and Soper each had two hits.
The Maroons take on North Central in non-conference action on Friday, April 28 at 6 p.m. CT in Naperville, Ill.
