CHICAGO – University of Chicago's top-ranked women's tennis team completed an undefeated weekend at the Midwest Invite with a 6-3 win over University Athletic Association (UAA) rival No. 19 Washington University-St. Louis on Saturday morning.
The Maroons defeated WashU for the second time in a week, previously blanking the Bears 9-0 on Saturday, April 1.
Sylwia Mikos and Shianna Guo secured a win at No. 1 doubles 8-2 while the second doubles tandem of Claudia Ng and Perene Wang won 8-1. Miranda Yuan and Brooke Pedersen were defeated narrowly in a tiebreak as the No. 3 doubles team, giving UChicago a 2-1 advantage after the doubles action.
In singles, Mikos, Guo, Pedersen and Ng all claimed victories to secure another win for the undefeated Maroons. Mikos, at the top spot, and Pedersen, playing at No. 3, both won in straight sets by scores of 7-5, 6-4 and 6-1, 6-0, respectively.
Guo and Ng needed a third set to finish off their opponents, winning the final sets 10-8 and 10-1, respectively.
UChicago finishes its regular season a perfect 16-0 and will take on the UAA Tournament next, which occurs in Altamonte Springs, Fla. from April 21-24.
