Box Score CHICAGO -- University of Chicago's baseball program defeated Midwest Conference (MWC) foe Knox College 14-2 in seven innings in its final home game of the 2023 season.
The Maroons improved to 22-15 overall and 13-8 in MWC play with a wire-to-wire victory on Wednesday afternoon. Ahead 6-0 after two innings, starter John Butka (3-1) maintained that advantage for much of the game, striking out 11 over 6.0 innings of work. Sam MacGregor and Sam Boswell combined to record the final three outs with the Maroons winning by run-rule for the third-straight game against the Prairie Fire.
Offensively, Erik Rindner led the lineup with a 5-for-5 day which included two runs scored and four RBI. Richard Lu and Blane Soper each had three hits in support as Soper matched Rindner with four RBI. Jack Goldstein and Braden Jirovec each had two RBI.
UChicago, which sits third in the MWC standings, will look maintain or improve upon its seeding this weekend for the upcoming MWC Tournament on the road at Lawrence for a three-game series, which ends the regular season slate, on May 6-7.
