Ariana Liu turned in the best singles performance of the opening weekend with a second-place finish in Flight G. Liu picked up wins over Colorado State (7-6 (7-4), 6-2) and Utah State (6-1, 0-6, 6-4) to become the lone UChicago player to reach a singles flight final. In the championship match, she came up short with a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Wyoming.
Sarena Biria joined Liu as the only two Maroons to earn multiple singles victories on the weekend. Biria posted a three-set win over Air Force (2-6, 7-5, 7-5) in the opening round. Following a semifinal loss to Wyoming, she bounced back with her second win of the weekend against Montana State (8-4).
In doubles play, the freshman duo of Tina Kintiroglou and Anika Paul earned UChicago's lone flight title of the weekend, capturing the Flight E championship on Day 2. Kintiroglou and Paul defeated Utah (6-4) in the semifinals before clinching the title with a 6-2 victory over Utah State in the finals.
The Maroons return to action next weekend in St. Louis, Missouri, for the ITA Central Regional Tournament at WashU. The three-day event begins Friday and continues through Sunday.
