CHICAGO -- Rebounding from its first loss of the season earlier this week, the 17th-ranked University of Chicago volleyball team won two matches Friday night at the Gargoyle Classic at the Ratner Athletics Center.

Junior middle blocker Caroline Brander (River Forest, Ill./ Trinity) collected seven kills and four blocks as the Maroons defeated Whittier College (2-8) 25-22, 26-24, 25-10 in Friday's first match.

Senior outside hitter Isis Smalls (Humble, Texas/ Atascocita) added seven kills and three blocks.

Senior outside hitter Colleen Belak (Louisville, Ky./ Presentation) and junior middle blocker Katie Trela (Glencoe, Ill./ Regina Dominican) then clubbed 10 kills apiece as Chicago (13-1) defeated Loras University (6-8) 25-15, 25-19, 25-17 in Friday's second contest.

Junior libero Samantha Brown (Louisville, Ky./ Mercy) was credited with 22 digs.

Action continues Saturday as the Maroons face Benedictine University at 9:30 a.m. and Millikin University at 3:30 p.m.
