CHICAGO -- Both teams kept their respective unbeaten streaks in tact as the University of Chicago and 20th-ranked North Park University battled to a 1-1 tie in men's soccer action Tuesday night at Stagg Field.
Chicago (5-1-2) extended its unbeaten streak to seven games, while North Park (5-0-4) remained undefeated on the season.
The Vikings struck early on Kris Grahn's goal in the seventh minute. Grahn took a feed from Robin Hals just inside the box and placed a shot past Chicago freshman netminder Elek Lane (Eau Claire, Wis./ Memorial).
Chicago evened the score in the 28th minute. Following a North Park yellow card, senior midfielder Stanton Coville (Powell, Ohio/ Olentangy Liberty) blasted a direct kick into the upper corner of the net for his fourth goal of the season and 24th of his career.
Coville (pictured, celebrating the goal) moved into sole possession of third place on Chicago's all-time goal scoring chart.
Chicago posted a 14-13 edge in shots, including a 3-1 margin in the two overtime stanzas.
Lane made eight saves, while his Viking counterpart Tim Ahlberg collected six stops on the night.
