No. 3 Wheaton Rallies Past No. 20 Chicago

CHICAGO -- Wheaton (Ill.) College's Jaime Orewiler and Annie Hamilton scored 10 minutes apart early in the second half to lift the third-ranked Thunder to a 2-1 win over the 20th-ranked University of Chicago in women's soccer action Tuesday at Stagg Field.

Despite being outshot 7-4 in the game's first 45 minutes, Chicago (5-3) scored the only goal of the half.

With just under 10 minutes remaining in the period, sophomore forward Kat Konstantinoff (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./ Tremper) took a feed from freshman forward Sarah Kwan (Irvine, Calif./ University) and slipped a shot past Wheaton netminder Kelsey Graham.

The goal was Konstantinoff's second of the season and the first allowed by Wheaton in six matches. Kwan recorded her fourth assist of the year, tying her for the club lead.

Orewiler tied the game in the 50th minute with an unassisted goal in the box, her fifth of the season.

Ten minutes later, Hamilton sent a shot toward the Chicago net that floated just over the outstretched arm of senior netminder Emma Gormley (Carmel, Ind./ Carmel) for what proved to be the winning goal. Hamilton's tally was her second of the year.

Wheaton (9-0) outshot the Maroons 7-2 in the second half, giving the Thunder a 14-6 edge for the match.

Gormley made six saves for the Maroons, while Graham stopped two shots.

Chicago begins defense of its University Athletic Association title Saturday as it opens conference play against fourth-ranked Emory University. Game time at Stagg Field is set for 1:30 p.m.
