Maroons Survive Scare at Case to Remain Undefeated

CLEVELAND -- Trailing by nine points at halftime, the second-ranked University of Chicago women's basketball team hit 23 free throws in the second period en route to a 62-57 win over University Athletic Association rival Case Western Reserve University Sunday afternoon.

Game Summary

  • Shooting just 29% from the field in the first half, the Maroons (14-0 overall, 3-0 UAA) fell behind 31-22 at halftime.

  • After missing its first 14 three-point field goal attempts, Chicago evened the score at 33-33 on a 3-pointer from freshman Hannah Ballard (Oak Park, Ill./ Fenwick) with 13:47 left in the contest.

  • The game then featured six lead changes and four ties until Chicago went ahead to stay, 44-43, on a free throw from senior Meghan Herrick (Cedarburg, Wis./ Cedarburg) at the 6:57 mark.

  • Chicago outscored the Spartans (8-6, 1-2) 18-14 the rest of the way.

  • Evy Iacono and Erin Hollinger paced the Spartans with 14 points apiece.

  • Chicago connected on 27 of 31 attempts from the foul line. Free throws accounted for 23 of the Maroons' last 29 points.

  • Chicago extended its regular season winning streak to 32 games and its UAA winning streak to 17 contests.
