Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Chicago men's soccer team took a two-goal lead in the second half, but Carnegie Mellon University rallied back for a 2-2 tie on Saturday.
The Maroons are now 5-2-3 on the year, with a 0-1-1 mark in the UAA. The No. 4-ranked Tartans ran their record to 8-1-1, 1-0-1 in the UAA.
After a hand ball was called in the box on CMU, Michael Choquette sent the penalty kick into the back of the net just 13:26 into the game. Chicago held possession for much of the first half and outshot the Tartans 7-3.
The Maroons scored again at 66:32 when Nic Lopez took a nice feed from Jorge Bilbao and beat the goalie with a shot into the lower right corner. The two-goal lead would not last long as CMU's Chris Wysocki would score on a nifty header off of a free kick from Ben Bryant at the 67:58 mark. Bryant then tied the game with 1:46 left in regulation on a rebound from a shot that Chicago keeper Brett Wiesen had just punched out.
Momentum shifted back and forth for both teams throughout the overtime periods, with neither having a great scoring opportunity.
The physical contest included 35 fouls (23 by the Tartans) and five yellow cards. The Maroons held a narrow 16-15 edge in shots. Carnegie Mellon had a significant advantage in corners, 7-2.
