Box Score 2 AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- On the final day of its spring break trip Saturday afternoon, the University of Chicago baseball team split a twinbill against 15th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. After dropping the opener 8-5, the Maroons rallied for a 6-0 victory in game two.
Game 1 Summary & Highlights
- UW-Whitewater took advantage of three Chicago errors in a four-run third inning en route to an 8-5 win in Saturday's first game.
- Chicago led 3-1 heading into the bottom of the third. Junior LF Jack Cinoman (Chicago, Ill./ Whitney Young) singled and scored in the first and tripled and scored in the third.
- Sophomore LHP Claude Lockhart (Shreveport, La./ Loyola) took the loss (1-1), allowing six hits and five runs -- all unearned -- over 2.2 innings.
- 2B J.T. Schneider, DH Samuel Keller, and LF Matt Beyer each went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs for the Warhawks.
- Whitewater RHP Tom Kerndt (2-0) logged the complete game victory.
Game 2 Summary & Highlights
- Sophomore LHP Alex Terry (Omaha, Neb./ Brownell-Talbot) (pictured) threw a three-hit shutout as the Maroons took the nightcap 6-0. Terry (2-0), who struck out four without issuing a walk, did not allow a base runner past second base.
- Chicago (8-4) scored five of its six runs off losing pitcher Matthew Roberts (0-1) in the second inning. Junior CF Ben Bullock (Englewood, Colo./ Regis Jesuit) delivered a two-run single and came around to score on an RBI single off the bat of junior 1B J.R. Lopez (Fort Collins, Colo./ Rocky Mountain).
- Cinoman tripled -- his second three-base hit of the doubleheader -- and scored in the fourth.
Notes
- Terry notched his second shutout in as many starts. He finished the Maroons' spring break trip having allowed only five hits over 14 scoreless frames. Opponents hit .109 in the two contests.
- Chicago won four of its eight spring break games by shutout. Maroon starting pitchers posted a 1.95 ERA during the week.
- Lopez was the Maroons' leading hitter during the week, with a .421 average (16-for-38).
