KENOSHA, Wis. -- The University of Chicago volleyball team picked up a pair of four-set victories at day one of the Carthage College Tournament on Friday.
The No. 13-ranked Maroons improved their season record to 8-2.
In the first match of the day, Chicago defeated St. Norbert College 3-1 (25-15, 25-19, 15-25, 25-17). The Maroons ran a diversified offense as eight players had three kills apiece. Maren Loe led in kills with 12 to go with 11 digs and three blocks. Morgan Barry and Caroline Brander each scored eight kills while adding three blocks and two blocks, respectively. Setter Nikki DelZenero compiled 43 assists with 10 digs. Libero Eirene Kim paced the defensive effort with 20 kills.
The second match came against host Carthage. The Maroons came away with a 3-1 win by scores of 25-17, 22-25, 25-17, 25-13. Morgan Clark put up an efficient line of 17 kills versus four errors. Barry displayed serving prowess with five aces and added good all-around numbers with 12 kills, seven digs and three block assists. Loe put away 10 kills offensively. Brander blocked two balls and spiked six kills on 11 attempts. Kim collected 13 digs and DelZenero racked up 38 assists.
Day two action begins at 10 AM on Saturday.
