Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Chicago women's soccer team ran its win streak to five games with a 3-0 victory over North Central College on Tuesday.
The Maroons improved to 7-2-0 on the year, including 5-0-0 against CCIW opponents. The Cardinals fell to 3-4-1 going in.
Chicago struck the first blow only 94 seconds into the game. Natalia Jovanovic possessed at midfield and sent it to Meghan Derken on the right side, who found Micaela Harms running in front for the goal.
The Maroons made it 2-0 in the 18th minute. A long kick by goalie Jacinda Reid bounced deep into North Central territory and was collected by Brigette Kragie in the box. The senior forward passed it across the goal mouth to Mary Bittner, who scored her fourth goal of the season.
Another run in the 26th minute made it 3-0. Kragie's shot was saved at point blank range, but Julia Ozello scored off the rebound.
In the second half, played evened up. North Central started to generate shots, especially from leading scorer Hope Stayer, who made several runs at goal and just missed high on two shots.
Both teams took six shots in the second half, and Chicago squelched any potential comeback with solid play.
Chicago owned the shot edge 16-9 and also the corner kick advantage 8-2. Reid earned the win between the pipes with one save in the first half. Mallory Morse came on as relief in the second half and made two saves in her 45 minutes on the pitch.
The Maroons kickoff their conference schedule at Emory University on Saturday, with game time scheduled for 11 AM (ET).
