Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The University of Chicago women's basketball team rallied back from a 13-point deficit in the second half, but Carnegie Mellon University pulled away late 76-68 on Sunday.
The Maroons fell to 6-12 overall, including 2-5 in conference action. The Tartans improved to 11-7, 3-4 in the UAA.
After grabbing an early 7-2 advantage, UChicago struggled with its shooting throughout the first half. The Maroons shot 19 percent in the period, as Carnegie Mellon went into halftime with a 35-26 lead.
CMU's largest lead of the game came at 43-30 in the second half. However, UChicago kept pounding the offensive glass and cutting the deficit. The visitors eventually tied the score at 55-55, and a pair of free throws by Paige Womack gave the Maroons a 58-57 lead with four minutes to go.
The score was tied again at 61-61 with 2:45 left. The Tartans then scored eight-straight points to put the game out of reach.
UChicago set a season-high for rebounds with 59, including a season-best 26 offensive boards. Those rebounds helped the Maroons to a 26-9 edge in second-chance points.
