CHICAGO, Ill. – The University of Chicago men's soccer team scored all of its goals in the second half and picked up its first shutout of the year, 3-0 over Bethel University on Saturday.

The Maroons improved to 5-3-0 while the Royals fell to 4-4-0.

UChicago controlled the action throughout the game and pressed forward constantly on offense. Despite 13 shots by the Maroons in the first half, the score was knotted at 0-0 going into the break. Constant rain during the match resulted in slick footing for the players, who slipped and fell regularly while battling for position.

The home side kept making runs at goal and finally broke through in the 67th minute. Freshman defender Stacey Reimann put a ball into space in front of the goal, and junior midfielder Jorge Bilbao came up and smacked a one-timer from 15 yards out past the goalkeeper. Senior midfielder Michael Choquette provided an insurance goal in the 82nd minute, scoring right in front on an assist from sophomore forward Brenton Desai. Two minutes later, UChicago made it 3-0 on a set piece. Choquette's kick found freshman midfielder Andre Abedian's head for his first collegiate goal.

The Maroons totaled a season-best 29 shots compared to nine by the Royals. UChicago also earned 11 corner kicks. Freshman goalie Hill Bonin (3-0-0) picked up his first career shutout with four saves in 90 minutes.
