CHICAGO – The University of Chicago men's and women's tennis teams maintained their high level of play with a pair of 8-1 wins over DePauw University on Saturday.
The No. 4-ranked Maroon men improved to 9-1 on the season, while the No. 34-ranked Tigers fell to 4-2.
Singles was once again UChicago's calling card. The hosts swept the six singles spots in straight sets. Sophomores Nicolas Chua and Luke Tsai both shut out their opponents 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 and No. 6 positions, respectively. The Maroons took two of three doubles as well, including a gutty 9-8 win at the top spot.
The team's multiple winners in both singles and doubles were Chua, junior Sven Kranz, freshman Charlie Pei and sophomore Peter Leung. UChicago has now swept singles four times this season.
The No. 15-ranked Maroon women won their third-straight match to move to 4-2. The No. 13-ranked Tigers dropped to 3-4.
UChicago came out ready in doubles and earned all three points. Freshman Rachel Kim and senior Lucy Tang combined to blank their opponents at No. 1 by an 8-0 margin. In singles, the Maroons only dropped three total sets on the evening. Tiebreakers went to the home team as well both at No. 2 with Kim and at No. 4 with junior Tiffany Chen.
Sophomore Ariana Iranpour, Kim, Tang and Chen were victorious in both singles and doubles action. Tang is now 5-0 in dual matches.
