Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CHICAGO -- The No. 13 University of Chicago volleyball team opened Day 1 of the University Athletic Association Round Robin #2 with a dominating win, taking down New York University 3-0 before falling for the first time in 13 tries in a 3-1 setback to No. 10 Carnegie Mellon Saturday.

The two-day event concludes Sunday, with the Maroons (18-4, 4-1 UAA) taking on Case Western Reserve at 12 p.m. and No. 20 Washington-St. Louis at 2 p.m.

#13 UCHICAGO 3, NYU 0 (25-7, 25-9, 25-16)
The Maroons opened the UAA Round Robin #2 with a strong effort against the Violets (4-18, 0-5 UAA), dominating the first two sets in a three-game sweep.

The Maroons hit a blistering .550 in the opener, totaling 12 kills with just one error, then followed it up with an errorless Set 2 to go along with another 12 kills. Anabella Pinton and Sarah Muisenga led a balanced attack with nine kills each and Madison Pearson added five for the offense, while setter Emma Griffith delivered 25 assists.

The defense totaled 36 digs, led by Anne Marie Stifter with 10 and senior Frances McDonald with eight.

For the match, UChicago hit .338, as Pinton was stellar with a .500 percentage – totaling nine kills with no errors in 18 total attempts. The win was the 12th straight for the Maroons, before Carnegie Mellon snapped the streak in Saturday's nightcap.

10 CARNEGIE MELLON 3, #13 UCHICAGO 1 (25-22, 25-27, 25-18, 25-22)
The Maroons used a huge second-set comeback win to build momentum against the nation's 10th-ranked team, but the Tartans (20-1, 4-1 UAA) would hold on down the stretch to snap UChicago's 12-game winning streak.

After CMU opened the match with a tight 25-22 win, it appeared as if the Tartans would go up two sets to none, leading 23-17. But the home team didn't quit, rattling off six-straight points – including three Sarah Muisenga kills and two more from Anabella Pinton.

Carnegie Mellon would finally stop the run with a kill to take a 24-23 lead, but it was Muisenga again with a kill to answer and knock the score at 24-all. Madison Pearson (two kills) and Audrey Scrafford (one kill) would finish it off, as the Maroons completed a thrilling second-set comeback.

But CMU would regain control of the match in the final two sets, holding off the Maroons for a 25-18 win in Set 3 before capturing a tightly contested win in the final set, 25-22.

Muisenga and Scrafford finished the match with 14 kills each and Pinton (11 kills) and Pearson (nine kills) also had strong offensive outings. First-year Aasha Dave was also efficient at the net with seven kills on a stellar .583 attack percentage, swinging 12 times with zero errors.

Griffith delivered 45 assists and added team-best 21 digs, and Frances McDonald (12 digs), Anne Marie Stifter (17 digs) and Muisenga (16 digs) also added double-digits in the defensive category.

Carnegie Mellon used a solid performance at the net, totaling 16 block assists and two solo blocks compared to eight and zero for the Maroons.
