Shen, Baldinazzo Lead Way for Maroon Swimming & Diving in Double Dual vs Lewis & ONU

CHICAGO – The University of Chicago men's and women's swimming & diving teams captured a combined 14 event titles in Friday's double dual meet against Lewis University and Olivet Nazarene in the Maroons' first meet back after the winter break.

First-year Elizabeth Shen led the way for the UChicago women, who swept both teams as Shen won two individual event titles and finished second in another. She came out victorious in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.42) and the 100 free (54.51) and also took runner-up honors in the 200 individual medley (2:12.76).

Sophomore Agnes Lo also won two titles, sweeping both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events with scores of 259.50 and 272.40, respectively. The Maroon women defeated Lewis, 222-65, and ONU, 154-144.

Nadia Redza rounded out the women's individual event winners, capturing the 1,000 freestyle in a time of 10:42.86.

On the men's side – where the Maroons topped Lewis (177-99) but were edged by ONU (146-133), Taye Baldinazzo (200 free, 1:42.11), Michael Todd (100 backstroke, 51.81) and Alexander Farrell (50 freestyle, 21.55) all captured event wins. Baldinazzo also earned two second-place finishes in both the 100 free (47.92) and 200 individual medley (1:57.58) and Todd earned a runner-up mark in the 100 butterfly (50.68).

Both team's relay teams also proved dominant. The women's side took top honors in the 400 medley team of Michelle Cho, Margaret Wolfson, Hadley Ackerman, and Daria Wick, as well as the meet's final event, the 400 free relay of Wolfson, Wick, Naomy Grand'Pierre and Yifan Mao.

For the men, it was UChicago again with wins as the 400-yard medley team of Keda Song, Reona Yamaguchi, Todd and Farrell and the 400 free team of Stephen Park, Keenan Novis, Song and Farrell also won titles.
