Box Score KENOSHA, Wis. – The University of Chicago volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision at Carthage College on Tuesday night.
The No. 18-ranked Maroons ran their record to 11-7 while the Firebirds improved to 15-9.
UChicago struggled to create points on the attack, as the home team held strong on the block and in the back row. The Maroons ultimately were limited to a .000 hitting percentage versus .163 for Carthage's offense. Carthage also served up nine aces in the match and held a slight edge in blocks (8-7).
The Firebirds strung together significant runs in each of the three sets. Carthage scored nine-straight points midway through the first set, took a 12-3 lead in the second set, and utilized a 9-1 run in the third set. The home side won by scores of 25-18, 25-13, 25-19.
In the middle, junior Ellie Alden and senior Audra Berg compiled six kills each and combined for seven blocks. The digs category was led by first-year Julia Craig (13) and senior Temilade Adekoya (11). Sophomore setter Maya Patel tallied 12 assists.
