CHICAGO – Peyton Lane's goal right before halftime proved to be the game winner as the University of Chicago men's soccer team defeated North Park University 1-0 in a crosstown matchup on Saturday night.

The No. 16-ranked Maroons improved to 10-4-1 while the Vikings fell to 12-4.

UChicago nearly broke onto the scoreboard at the 37:47 mark when first-year Jack Leuker rattled the crossbar with his shot. Then with 30 seconds left before halftime, junior Richard Gillespie sent in a long attempt that rebounded off the goalkeeper's outstretched arm. The loose ball went straight to Lane and the senior smacked his shot into the back of the net to put his team ahead.

The Maroons held the lead from that point on and claimed their eighth shutout of the season. Senior goalkeeper Calvin Walters (8-4-1 record) collected three saves in his 90 minutes of action.

Overall, UChicago outshot NPU 19-10 and also held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Junior Naz Kabbani and sophomore Ryan Yetishefsky combined for nine shots taken.
