Box Score LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Another fast start by the University of Chicago men's basketball team resulted in a 77-68 victory on the road at Lake Forest College on Saturday afternoon.
The Maroons improved to 2-0 while the Foresters fell to 0-4.
For the second-straight game, UChicago controlled the first-half action. The Maroons embarked on a massive 24-6 run over a nearly six-minute stretch. Sophomore Elliot Paschal put up 11 points during that time, including a trio of three-pointers. Paschal and senior Brandon Beckman were the offensive catalysts in the first half with 14 points each. After junior Bryce Hopkins converted a layup just before the buzzer, the visitors held a sizable 43-27 halftime advantage.
Lake Forest whittled away at the deficit as the second half progressed. UChicago held a double-digit lead until 53-44 with 13 minutes left. However, the Maroons never let the lead slip below six points the rest of the way. Hopkins put up eight points in the half and junior Skyler Twyman went 3-for-3 off the bench for seven points.
The back court duo of Beckman and Paschal each scored a team-high 20 points. Hopkins tallied 12 points and first-year Thomas Kurowski contributed eight points as a reserve. Twyman dished out five assists as well.
Both teams shot 47 percent from the field, but the Maroons hit nine three-pointers compared to three by Lake Forest. The Foresters led rebounding handily 36-24, but also committed 15 turnovers versus only six by UChicago.
