Box Score BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The University of Chicago men's basketball team couldn't keep pace with an efficient Illinois Wesleyan University offense in an 83-50 loss on Wednesday evening.
The Maroons dropped to 4-3. The No. 2-ranked Titans improved to 6-0.
IWU was on point from the get-go, taking an 11-0 lead five minutes into the game. The hot start continued for the entire first half, as the host Titans increased their advantage to 39-15 by halftime. While the home team was knocking down more than 50 percent of its shots, UChicago labored offensively, going 1-for-16 from three-point range in the half. IWU also doubled up the Maroons in rebounding (24-12).
The Maroons shot 45 percent in the second half. But the Titans could not be caught, as IWU converted 11 of 22 from beyond the arc over the course of the game.
The Titans shot 53.4 percent from the field, 50 percent from long range and 76.9 percent at the line (10-13). The Maroons shot 34.4 percent on field goals, 16.7 percent on threes (5-30) and 33.3 percent on free throws (1-3). IWU won the rebounding battle 42-30.
First-year Thomas Kurowski put up a team-high 13 points. First-year Jackson Piotrowski scored eight points, while first-year Ezra Moos and senior Brandon Beckman tallied seven points each. Junior Skyler Twyman contributed six points and six rebounds.
